The Power of Forgiveness

I want you to think about someone, and that someone may be that person who hurt you so much, emotionally, physically or even spiritually, someone who disrespected you or that someone could also be you.

Ok, now that you have that person(s) in your mind, I want to ask you one thing:

“Have you forgiven them?”

Here’s my thoughts about forgiveness, and why we should choose to forgive.

it is a gift for yourself,

Why is it a gift? It is a gift because you’ll grow as a person, you will discover how good it feels to forgive. By doing so, it will help you to move forward in life, it will give you freedom, knowledge and wisdom. You will be stronger emotionally and spiritually,  it will give you peace of mind. You will now be able to sleep at night without thinking of that person, don’t we all love to sleep with an empty mind?

you make mistakes, too,

You may be the most rejected, hated or disrespected person in the world, but let me tell you this harsh truth : YOU MAKE MISTAKES, TOO.

I get it, that person may be the most evil person ever, but think about yourself. Renew your mind by thinking that you are not perfect, that you’ve hurt people too and that you’ve made someone cry, too.

you have been forgiven,

Like I told you before, you’ve hurt people too and made mistakes. Yet, you have been forgiven. Those people may already have forgiven you, your parents forgave you a million times and I do believe your friends too.

Did I mention God? Can you think about all your sins and the times that you have hurt Him, and yet He still forgives and loves you unconditionally.

Colossians 3:13 1 John 1:9

“I will take revenge;
    I will pay them back,” – says the Lord.”

Romans 12:9

    I had to forgive my abuser of sexual abuse from 12months to 13 years…in order for me to heal. Easy? NO! Worth it? yes. and still, having done that ‘hard’ forgiveness – it’s harder to forgive someone that hurts you in little ways, every day. As in, the people we live with! Forgiveness is an always work…and so worth it! Thank you!

    You’re so right. Forgiveness is such a precious gift to give ourselves and others. I love what Lysa TerKeurst says about it in “Uninvited”. Totally recommend that book!
